The South Reno Veterinary Hospital:
Dr. Schmitt and the staff at South Reno Veterinary Hospital seek to provide high quality veterinary medicine for your pets and service for you.
X-ray:
Our in-house x-ray unit and processor allows us to obtain radiographs (x-rays) within minutes. The floating table provides ease with which to handle your pet and minimize restraint and movement which can be uncomfortable for you pet and be taxing on those restraining the patient. As an added service, we have a board certified veterinary radiologist at a referral clinic who can review radiographs.
Pharmacy:
We eliminate an additional trip to your local pharmacy by offering most medications through our in house pharmacy. Occasionally a special order must be made and medications can usually be delivered next day to our clinic. If necessary, prescriptions can be made for a local pharmacy.
Laboratory:
Critical, emergent, and sick pets often require immediate diagnostic tests to aid in diagnosing (problem solving) and assessment. Our laboratory has a state of the art chemistry, blood cell, and electrolyte analyzer. It is also well suited for pre-anesthetic or pre-sedation diagnostics. Additional in-house procedures include urinalysis, cytology, skinscrapes, and more. For advanced and more comprehensive diagnostics, a reference laboratory is used. They pick up twice daily, and a “STAT” can be placed on samples that are critical.
Anesthesia:
Is one of the more challenging aspects of veterinary medicine. We provide the very best in inhalant anesthetics, Sevoflurane. It provides for ease of induction and recovery
-
MONITOR: In addition we constantly monitor pets under anesthesia both manually and with the aid of machines: pulse, electrocardiogram (EKG), breathing rate, pulse oximetry, temperature. Pre-operative diagnostic blood tests aid in assessing a patient's ability to withstand general anesthesia. We also tailor our protocol and use different agents to many factors including the age and health of status of your pet.
-
FLUID THERAPY: Maintains hydration and blood pressure during anesthesia. All patients going under general anesthesia at South Reno Veterinary Hospital are required to have an (IV) catheter and receive IV fluids.
-
TEMPERATURE: A heated surgical table and heated pads provide thermal support during anesthesia when body temperatures can drop.
Exam rooms:
-
The hospital offers a designated cat room.
-
There is a l arge dog room has an electric lift table that is inches from the ground that allows for easy walk on. It then can be raised to a comfortable height for exam without lifting the patient. It can also be used an an aid for non-ambulatory patients.
-
A third exam room provides for everything in between.
Treatment areas:
-
A table with shallow tub is used for dental prophylaxis and general procedures.
-
An additional deep tub with exam table allows us to give baths and medicated topical treatments.
-
Kennels in this area are designed to house critical patients and those recovering from anesthesia. It is a well traveled area which allows for more frequent viewing and observation.
Isolation unit:
Provides quarantine for those animals suspected of having or diagnosed with an infectious disease and requiring hospitalization. Quarantine procedures are put into effect to prevent spread of infectious agents
Hospitalization area:
Provides housing for less critical patients.
During A Pet Emergency:
Dr. Schmitt is available 24 hours for consultations. Many emergency cases require intensive care and monitoring and will be referred to the Animal Emergency Clinic.
